The Margaritas are pretty standard for a Mexican restaurant. They did not taste fresh mixed, but they not overly sweet. The frozen Margarita with sangria swirl added a different dynamic to the normal frozen lime version. The salsa was the best part of our visit. A little heat with a nice cilantro flavor. The chips were average. SO ordered the mixed fajitas. There was plenty of meat and shrimp, but not much for being veggies. I got the tacos al carbon with steak. The steak was well cooked, but I could have done without the cheddar cheese they were topped with. The cheese dip serviced with the tacos seemed out of place, and tasted like canned nacho cheese. Refried beans and rice were both dry. No flavor to the rice. Not bad if you are looking for Tex Mex.

No bueno!!! Aye dios mios! Stay away. There is nothing here you want. This was my first time here. I usually order the basic Mexican dish to see how good, or bad, they are. I got the taco plate. My mother got the enchilada and my son got a children's burrito. I asked the waitress, who rocked, by the way, Maria was the ONLY saving grace here, about the Margaritas. They are not traditional Margaritas, they are made with flavored syrup, ice and low grade tequila. ICK! Also, take note, we never smelled food in the restaurant. Why wouldn't you smell food in a restaurant? Because most of the food is not actually "cooked" there. When our food came, my taco shells were crunchy, like I asked, but I swear they were the boxed, pre-made taco shells I can get at Winn Dixie. Not cooked here, they weren't even warm, either was the chewy beef. Why was it chewy? It's not "cooked". My son's burrito was not a burrito, it was a flour tortilla rolled around pieces of dried chicken bits. He wouldn't touch it. My mother's enchilada...covered with chili. What decent Mexican does this? So, my mother had the nerve to ask for Flan. It came, it was pretty with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Flan isn't served like this. What's going on? Oh, it isn't Flan, it's rice pudding! That's fine for people who don't know any better, but we do. If you enjoy good, authentic Mexican food, you won't find it here. Taco Bell is more Mexican than this place.

I give this restaurant 5 stars because they deserve it. I've been eating at this particular location for several years now. Haven't had the yearning to try the other location because this one suits me just fine. I've eaten here a multitude of times, too many to count. I've eaten at some of the other mexican restaurants in B.R., but this one beats them all, even beats Ninfas (who's only good for their drinks and green sauce). I like a WHOLE restaurant, not one that's only good for one thing on their menu, and that's this restaurant and location in particular. Menu items I've tried have been: The enchiladas dinner: beef, chicken, or cheese The taco salad: The best I've ever eaten!! I order it with fajita chicken meat and it comes with to-die-for house salad dressing and yummy guacamole The pork Tamales dinner: so far the best tamales in Baton Rouge!!! The Flautas dinner: excellent for a crunchy dinner! The Fajitas dinner for one: I always get the chicken meat and it's served with the regular salsa, guacamole, extra shredded cheese, and sour cream. The Gigante Burrito Supreme: was really good, almost too much to eat! The Chimichanga dinner: I order it with chicken (yes! i'm a chicken freak) and it's really good, but if you get take-out, order the sauce on the side or it will be soggy and not crispy when you get it home. The San Juan plate: tamale, enchilada, and a taco. all excellent! Appetizers I've tried have been: Spinach Queso dip: YUMMM!!! excellent!!!! Tampico Egg Rolls: Basically your southwestern eggrolls you can get at most tex-mex grills and restaurants, and their's is excellent! You could almost eat these as a meal! Mexican potato skins: Good but the skins were a litte on the small side for the price of the appetizer. Mozzarella cheese sticks: yummy stringy mozzarella with a really tasty breading, and ranchero sauce to dip in. Stuffed Jalapenos: good but again, slightly overpriced for the size of them. Maria's Nachos Grande: really good nachos. Nothing soggy, and evenly spread toppings. The jalapenos were awesome on these! and Quesadillas: again i ordered with fajita chicken (because the chicken has been marinated and grilled which makes it SO good in any dish they serve! So flavorful and smoky!) The quesadillas were very good but again, slightly over-priced for such a minimal appetizer. The price they have on them is a dinner price in my opinion. Some menu items are slightly over-priced in my opinion (such as the appetizers) but others are VERY fairly priced. They range anywhere from approximately $9.50 - $14.00. I've never eaten a burger or seafood entree from this restaurant but I'm sure if I did, it would be awesome. The food is consistenly served hot, fresh, crispy, green, and looking like it's supposed to (eating in or take-out). Never rotting, brown, old or stale. All dinners come with spanish rice and refried beans. The rice is pretty good, and the beans are ok (a little too much black pepper flavor in them for my taste, but some people might like that). If you're a "Mixer" like me and mix your rice and beans together, their rice and beans taste good together! They are very accommodating when it comes to ordering it like u like it. If you want sauce on the side, they do it, if you want something seperated, they do it. Always with a smile and kind voice. They are fast to serve. Their complimentary salsa (eating in or even take-out) is SO yummy! The chips are always crisp without being greasy or over-salted. Definitely worth giving this restaurant a try if you are looking for a consistently good restaurant with fair prices. I will keep going back to this one. The hostess is always so nice too. Parking can be a little tricky as it is a slightly small lot. Some spaces are easy to park in, and others are kinna cramped when trying to back out.

Casa Marie has excellent Mexican food. Everything is fresh and reasonably priced. This location has recently added booths which I happen to love. There is also a nice outdoor area to enjoy on pretty days. This is our favorite casual dining place.

Casa Maria is definitely cheap Mexican food. I'm not impressed with them for a number of reasons. The food isn't that great to begin with but it's what you would except from a cheap Mexican place. The real factor that makes me never want to eat there again is that I got horrible food poisioning from there after eating one of their taco salads. I called them later and told them about the situation and was basically blown off without so much as an apology much less an offer to give me my money back. They do have decent drink specials but the margaritas are so lacking in alcohol that they might as well be virgin. On the whole, this isn't a place I'd recommend going.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
